From Chaos to Trust: A Transformation Story

It’s fall 2015, and I’m stepping into my first day as a contractor at Amazon.

Onboarding was straightforward: This is the product you support, this is what it does, these are who use it, and this is the backlog of all the tickets we need help clearing.

“There are… 837 tickets? Dating back to last summer?”

“Yes, and this is just one product. For North America employees. We’re expanding to 40+ countries and many more systems along the way.”

😳

The plan? Stabilize, optimize, then scale.

Leadership knew that to achieve roadmap goals, we had to start delivering stable, working products that stopped adding to our technical debt.

So that’s where we began: stabilizing what we had, optimizing processes to reduce disconnects with our customers, and laying the groundwork to scale globally.

One of our biggest game changers was rethinking how we approached User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

Instead of treating UAT as just the final checkbox before launch, we reimagined “user acceptance” as a mindset and a strategic process that spans the entire lifecycle. It became more than testing – it became a way to uncover issues early, gather actionable data, align stakeholders at every step, and continuously refine the product to exceed user expectations.

In true “Amazon fashion,” we started with a happy customer and worked backward, optimizing and iterating along the way.

Fast forward 5 years and hundreds of product launches later and our results speak for themselves:

  • Launched 20+ HR systems to over a million users in 30+ countries.
  • Reduced product support queues by up to 90%.
  • Cut post-launch defects by up to 70%.
  • Streamlined user testing, reducing test times by up to 50%.
  • Improved internal processes and tracking.
  • Expanded operations into four additional time zones, enabling near 24/7 support and 95% SLA success.
  • Adopted Agile models for product maintenance, reducing time-to-market for enhancements and “quick wins” for our end-users.
  • And most importantly, earned back the trust of our customers.

At GTC, we bring the same principles to every client we work with. Our approach to UAT transforms it from a routine test phase into a strategic advantage, helping product teams bridge the gap between development and customer need.

We believe every successful product starts with understanding the true needs of its users and ends with a solution that strengthens the bond between you and your customers.

We’re not just showing you how to test software. We’re showing you how to deliver trust.

If you’re ready to transform your product delivery and build lasting trust with your users, let’s start the conversation today.

How we make it work for you

What is User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and why does it matter?2024-12-02T20:40:48+00:00

UAT is the final phase of testing before a product goes live. It’s all about ensuring the software works as expected for real users and meets business needs. A “good” UAT catches issues early, reduces post-launch headaches, and helps teams deliver a product customers want to use. A “great” UAT takes it a step further – providing the data and insights needed to successfully iterate and optimize your entire product lifecycle.

What makes UAT optimization so critical?2024-12-02T20:49:57+00:00

Even with a well-organized UAT process, things can fall apart if the earlier stages – like defining requirements, building features, or initial testing – haven’t been handled properly. On the flip side, you can get everything right leading up to UAT and still run into trouble if your UAT process isn’t effective. UAT optimization ensures not just that testing runs smoothly, but that it bridges the gap between your product and your users, enabling streamlined workflows, fewer defects, and data-driven decisions for future iterations.

How does Greater Than Consulting optimize UAT for product teams?2024-12-02T20:56:54+00:00

We transform UAT from a routine checkbox task into a data-driven process that drives efficiency, stability, and user confidence. Our approach combines tailored KPIs, detailed entry criteria, and actionable metrics to streamline the testing cycle, reduce cycle times, and ensure higher-quality releases. All backed by our proven methodologies and years of experience with leading tech companies.

What makes GTC’s approach different from others?2024-12-02T20:59:08+00:00

We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all solution. Every business is different, and we tailor our process to fit your needs. Instead of just focusing on test execution, we look at the bigger picture—aligning your testing strategy with business goals and user expectations. And because we combine UAT optimization with change management, our services help you go beyond testing and prepare for a successful launch.

How do you ensure teams are ready for UAT?2024-12-03T01:26:49+00:00

We help you implement rigorous entry criteria mechanisms to ensure that all prerequisites – such as code stability, requirement traceability, and stakeholder approvals – are met before UAT begins. This minimizes wasted time on incomplete or misaligned testing and maximizes the efficiency of the UAT cycle.

Do you provide tools or templates to support UAT optimization?2024-12-02T21:05:06+00:00

Yes! Our UAT Toolkit includes everything from cost calculators and RACI matrices to test suite templates and defect analysis guides. These tools are designed to standardize and streamline your UAT process, making it more effective and easier to manage.

Who is your ideal client?2024-12-02T21:16:36+00:00

Our ideal clients are product teams and organizations across public, private, and non-profit sectors who are committed to delivering high-quality software but frustrated with inefficient UAT processes. They typically:

  • Face challenges with timely and successful UAT cycles, often dealing with delays and defects.
  • Want to use data to make smarter testing decisions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Know there’s potential for better performance but need a more efficient way to test and deliver quality software.
